Leadership: A Discussion with Peter Mansbridge
What does it take to be a leader? How can leadership be achieved? In this special session, Peter Mansbridge – anchor of CBC's flagship nightly news show, The National, Officer of the Order of Canada and an internationally renowned journalist and public speaker – will share his thoughts on these questions and discuss them with the executive community.
A leader in his own right who exemplifies the value of life-long learning, Mr. Mansbridge has collected a wealth of observations on this topic from his decades of experience covering the news and the many interviews he has conducted with leaders from around the world. He brings these insights together with a unique and expert perspective on our shared national story and how it shapes our individual and collective identities as Canadians.

How to Give and Receive a Two-Minute Briefing
This lecture presents an approach to briefing that allows executives to confidently and effectively summarize an issue in two minutes or less. It will also provide insight into how senior managers are viewed, how their staff try to respond to their perceived needs and preferences and the negative communications patterns they can fall into. Finally, the lecture will sketch out how a leader's reception of a two-minute briefing can contribute to successful communication, deliberation and decision making.
Based on the School's highly popular half-day course on this topic and led by Royal Orr, one of the senior faculty members who developed the two-minute briefing approach, this session offers executives tips and strategies for conserving their most valuable resource – time.
