Description
Managers of public funds are expected to have a strong foundation in budgeting concepts and practices. This course uses case studies and practical exercises to explain the priority setting, resource planning and budget allocation processes in the federal government. Participants will gain a solid understanding of the rules and guidelines needed for the efficient management of public funds. [G243]
Topics include:
- the manager's role in leading the work-planning and budget-formulation process
- the process of formulating a budget, including budgetary management and control, the preparation, costing and implementation of a detailed work plan
- the issues of risk, stewardship, values and ethics and information systems as they apply to public funds
