18 days over 14 months
The Canada School of Public Service's Direxion Program is the most recognized leadership development program for managers aspiring to become executives in the public service. This intensive leadership program provides an opportunity to acquire leadership competencies through practical experiential learning methods. Upon completion of the program, you will emerge with the required skills and the know-how to take the next step in your career.
Components and structure
Direxion includes three phases – 18 days (13 days in class and a 5-day learning tour) over 14 months (two fiscal years).
This unique program draws on the wealth of expertise from exceptional guest speakers and presenters. With their guidance, participants develop—and learn how to apply—the leadership competencies and self-management skills sought after by adaptive organizations in today's quickly evolving leadership context.

Inter-Phase Activities
Individual development is supported by a program manager and group work (peer coaching groups) between phases. Attendance Policy
Purpose
In order to graduate from the various corporate, departmental or functional community development programs that utilize Direxion as their educational component, participants are required to have successfully completed Direxion, including the required assignments.
Moreover, in order to successfully complete Direxion, participants are expected to be in attendance for the duration of the 18 days program (offered in three phases).
The following information specifies the policy and procedures under which a participant will be asked to reschedule and/or repeat portions of Direxion in order to attain successful completion.
Policy
In the event a participant misses one day in any one phase or two days in total, the Canada School of Public Service reserves the right to ask the participant to repeat the necessary portion. The content and activities missed on days of absence will have a bearing on the School's decision.
The School will determine, based on the number of seats available and language of the program, when the next available opportunity will be.
Depending on the reason for the participant's absence, the participant's home or host department will be responsible for any costs incurred, as a result of this absence, and rescheduling (e.g.; transportation, supplemental tuition fees, etc.).
Procedures
Participants will notify their Direxion Program Manager in advance, if possible, of any absence from the class.
After one day is missed, the Direxion Program Manager will advise the participant of the policy.
In the event a second day is missed, the Direxion Program Manager will speak with the participant, assess the situation and determine the need to advise the contact person responsible for their particular program.
The Direxion Program Manager reserves the right to ask the participant to repeat the phase, or a portion thereof, as the case may be. The School will advise the person responsible for their particular program.
Cancellation Policy
Participants who are not able to attend, or find a replacement 28 calendar days prior to the start of Phase I, will be charged a cancellation fee of $6,000.
The Canada School of Public Service will not accept participant cancellations during the three phases except for justified sick leave and maternity leave. In such cases, participants are enrolled in the next available offering(s) of the phase(s). If the participant no longer wishes to continue in the program, the School shall be entitled to the payment of the remaining value of the Memorandum of Understanding agreement.
Replacements will not be accepted for participation during the three phases of the program.
