Senior Managers Roadmap  Senior Managers

Executives at the EX-1, EX-2 and EX-3 levels or equivalent

As your partner in learning, the Canada School of Public Service provides learning products and training opportunities to advance Public Service Renewal and to enhance your job performance now and in the future.

The Government of Canada's Policy on Learning, Training and Development (external link) states that you are responsible for acquiring and maintaining the knowledge, skills and competencies related to your position and for developing and pursuing a personal learning plan.

If you are a senior manager, this Learning Roadmap is for you. It will guide the creation of your personal learning plan and help you achieve your learning goals. Learning Roadmaps outline required training, recommended learning and additional learning opportunities available from the Canada School of Public Service. They get you started on the right path and point you in the right direction throughout your career in the public service.

Your Foundations: Required Training

The School provides two types of required training for newly appointed senior managers: Orientation to the Public Service and Authority Delegation Training.

These foundational learning programs will help you understand your roles, responsibilities and delegated authorities and will help you contribute to the renewal of the public service. They are available to employees for whom the Treasury Board is the employer (please see the Directive on the Administration of Required Training (external link) for further information on eligibility).

Orientation to the Public Service

If you are an employee newly appointed to the public service, you will receive basic orientation training, where you will spend two days participating in a program designed to introduce you to the function, culture, values and ethics of the Public Service of Canada.

As a senior manager, you are an important catalyst in ensuring that all public servants understand the unique values and culture of the public service. To this end, the program is a great way of welcoming new employees into the public service and to help them gain a common understanding of their role.

To ensure that you are registered within two months of appointment, contact your Departmental Required Training Coordinator.

Authority Delegation Training

New to your level?
If you are appointed for the first time to the following executive levels, the respective classroom course must successfully be completed before you can assume new delegated signing authorities:
