The Public Service Employment Act (PSEA) is designed to facilitate recruitment by offering flexibility to departments and agencies while respecting fairness, transparency, accessibility and representativeness. This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to manage the staffing process in the context of human resources (HR) responsibilities under the PSEA. Participants will acquire a common understanding of the importance of using staffing as a management tool to meet current and future HR needs.

Topics include:

  • definition of staffing
  • use of effective resourcing strategies and options
  • selection, notifications and appointments
  • assessment and informal discussions
  • managing staffing through integrated HR planning and establishing merit criteria
