Project Management in Practice (R250)

Description

Type: Classroom
Duration: 07:30 hours

The ability to apply the fundamentals of project management is essential for public servants to effectively and efficiently manage organizational resources in today's workplace. This engaging workshop will allow employees and managers who are actively involved in the execution of projects to gain hands-on experience by working in groups to collaborate and share their knowledge of recognized project management practices. Participants will review a business case, and complete a project charter and project management plan.

Topics include:

  • justifying why a project is required
  • outlining the deliverables
  • evaluating a project management plan and defining how a project will be delivered

Notes:

To get the most out of the new curriculum, it is suggested that learners take courses successively, beginning with Introduction to Project Management (R200), followed by Project Management Methods and Processes (R210) and Project Management Policy, Roles and Responsibilities (R220) before registering for Project Management In Practice (R250).

Please note that on September 30, 2019, the Project Management in Practice course (R250) will be removed from the course calendar. There is a need for more thorough training for project managers in the Government of Canada. We have decided to expand the 1-day course into a 3-day course, which will cover a broader range of topics and provide more hands-on experience, as well as include Agile methodologies. Beginning Spring 2020, R250 will be replaced with a new updated 3-day classroom course: Project Management in Practice (R275). We also recently launched 16 new Project Management Institute (PMI)-certified courses on our online learning platform (GCcampus) to provide professional-level project management learning for public servants
