Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the School has had to suspend the classroom sessions of the Supervisor Development Program (SDP) effective March 16, 2020. They will not be offered until further notice. The School is offering a brand new virtual learning path for this program: the Supervisor Development Program (virtual version – SDPv).

The Supervisor Development Program offers a practical, hands-on approach to the core functions of the supervisory role. Assuming supervisory responsibilities is the first major transition point in a public service career. The School offers a comprehensive program to help you succeed in this new role, giving you the skills you need to supervise the day-to-day performance of individual employees and small teams.

Supervisor Development Program (virtual version – SDPv)

The new virtual version of the Supervisor Development Program (SDPv) includes a series of online courses designed to help you develop the skills and knowledge required to supervise the members of your team.

About the program

The SDPv will allow you to develop greater self-awareness, learn to adapt your communication skills to people and situations, and demonstrate leadership in adopting strategies to support the performance of your team members. Participants will learn how to be effective in managing priorities while creating an inclusive work environment in keeping with public sector values and ethics. The virtual sessions, which run a maximum of two hours each, will be delivered via the Webex Training platform. This virtual journey can be completed in 6 to 18 months.

You will become familiar with best practices and discover the different ways to foster productivity and meet challenges as they arise.

About the program

This three-day program is delivered in the classroom. It focuses on the basics of supervision, encouraging participants to explore key concepts such as leadership, communication, delegation and engagement in greater depth.

Emphasizing people management, the SDP offers a practical, hands-on approach to the core functions of the supervisory role. You will leave the session prepared to apply your supervisory skills and competencies in the workplace.
