Geopolitics and National Security Development Program for Executives
This program offers a unique and valuable opportunity for federal government executives in the EX group or equivalent to deepen their understanding of contemporary global issues that shape the context in which they operate.
About the program
Security, economic and social issues are increasingly intertwined, and this program builds participants' capacity to appreciate how this interplay affects their work, the decisions they make and the advice they give. Through engagement with leading experts, simulations, and plenary and small group discussions, participants explore contemporary and emerging geopolitical issues, threats to Canada, and the impacts of emerging technologies. Participants are challenged to think critically and strategically about how these issues connect with Canadian interests and values, public trust, and their own leadership.
During this cohort-based program, participants will:
- engage with leading experts from academia, the private sector, federal organizations, and non-governmental organizations
- expand their knowledge of geopolitics, security threats and technological trends and their implications for government business and Canadian interests
- engage in critical thinking and debate on what is required for Canada to meet the challenges of the rapidly evolving global context
- explore the different considerations involved in the government’s responses to complex challenges and, through simulation exercises, practise strategic leadership and agility
- have access to a collaborative, broadened and diversified professional network
