Regional Learning Days offer a dynamic opportunity for learning and connecting with regional employees across the country.

Regional Learning Days are tailored two-day in-person learning opportunities designed for federal public servants working in the different regions across Canada. Each day focuses on emerging trends, Government of Canada priorities, leading-edge ideas, and best practices that are relevant in the evolving government work environment.

Regional Learning Days provide:

  • relevant, practical learning to support your daily work or workplace
  • a chance to connect with peers, share experiences, and build networks
  • in-person engagement that will strengthen your local professional community

Participants will receive a certificate of completion for each full day of learning.

Regional Learning Days go beyond standardized training by providing learning activities that will prompt new insight and discussion around the work challenges faced by and opportunities available to today's federal public servants, including those working in a region.

Once the in-person sessions are full, learners are encouraged to register for a virtual session in their preferred language.

Agenda

Over each two-day period, participants will be presented with 6 different 90-minute learning sessions (3 per day) on a variety of topics. Participants may register for a single day (3 sessions) or for both days (6 sessions) for a more comprehensive learning experience. Each session will be facilitated by a live instructor in a classroom setting.

Day 1, Session 1: Players and Processes in Federal Decision Making

This session will provide a high-level overview of the actors, processes and key instruments involved in executive decision-making in the federal government, with a focus on the dynamics between the executive branch (the Prime Minister and Cabinet) and federal organizations involved throughout this process.

Day 1, Session 2: Reconciliation Begins with Me

This session will foster an understanding of reconciliation and the importance of building renewed relationships with Indigenous Peoples. It will address the professional development and training requirements outlined in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 57. Participants will learn about the impacts of residential schools, the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the obligations of public servants in supporting reconciliation efforts.

Day 1, Session 2 (Iqaluit, Yellowknife, and Whitehorse only): Decolonizing the Public Service: A Practical Approach

This session will provide an interactive learning experience focused on decolonization. Participants will learn about the colonial legacy and its lasting impacts within the public service, and explore how they can contribute to advancing reconciliation by supporting efforts to decolonize mindsets and practices in their workplaces.

Day 1, Session 3: Unleashing Resiliency During Change

This session will explore the concepts of resiliency and change, highlighting their impact on personal and professional well-being. Participants will learn and discuss four practical resiliency strategies to manage uncertainty and adapt during challenging times, and will create a personalized action plan using these strategies to strengthen their resilience and navigate change with confidence.

Day 2, Session 1: Unconscious Bias and Inclusive Leadership

This session will explore the Canadian context of equity, diversity, and inclusion through an interactive format, with a focus on unconscious bias and inclusive leadership. Participants will discover what it means to lead inclusively in today’s diverse society, recognize how unconscious bias and microaggressions can limit potential, and learn strategies to address them. The session will also encourage reflection on personal leadership journeys and inclusive values, while equipping participants with practical tools to drive meaningful change.

Day 2, Session 2: Discover the Government of Canada's Digital Standards

This session will provide an understanding of the current context and enablers of a digital government, introduce participants to the Government of Canada’s Digital Standards, offer opportunities to practise recognizing digital behaviours aligned with these standards, and demonstrate how to apply the Digital Standards in the context of their own work.

Day 2, Session 3: Navigating Dynamic Environments

This session will help public service employees explore the drivers of change and turbulence in their work environments and reflect on their impacts. Participants will learn to interpret and respond to current challenges to improve performance and continue providing high-impact services to Canadians.
